Leontine Mary Jane BUISSON was born on 22 April 1837 in Battersea, Surrey, England - she was the first child of Frenchman Jean François BUISSON ('John Francis') and his English wife, Dorothy Jane SMITHER.
Leontine was christened 21 June 1837 at Saint Mary's Church, Battersea, Surrey (for church website and pictures of the church, see http://www.stmarysbattersea.org.uk).
Leontine married Edward COOPER in 1866 in Hampstead, Middlesex, England. They were apart on the night on the 1871 English census, at which time she was living at 108 Belsize Road, Hampstead, London (the house of James Hamilton, a barrister, where her status is that of 'lodger').
Leontine and Edward emigrated to Queensland, Australia c1871 at which time she became a teacher, a writer (for 'The Boomerang' and 'The Star') and a key member of the women's suffrage movement in Queensland.
